WASHINGTON, DC — Following the grand opening of DuPont’s new cellulosic ethanol plant in Nevada, Iowa, that will produce up to 30 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol annually from corn crop residue, Tom Buis, co-chairman of Growth Energy, issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to DuPont. Growth Energy and the entire biofuels industry recognizes this significant accomplishment in the development and commercial scale production of cellulosic ethanol, as well as the steadfast determination of innovative thinkers and leaders at DuPont who have made it possible. This facility will help our nation in the pursuit of energy independence and mitigating climate change.
“Additionally, cellulosic ethanol in combination with corn ethanol will help reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels. Facilities such as this also create good jobs right here in America, in towns like Nevada, and build a strong agricultural economy, which strengthens our national economy. And, with increased production of cellulosic ethanol, consumers will have a greater choice and savings at the pump.
“With the opening of this new facility there are now multiple commercial scale cellulosic plants, including POET/DSM’s Project Liberty, Quad County Corn Processors and Abengoa, which will help increase the availability of cellulosic fuel made from biomass and other waste.”
