Sombke Likes New Ethanol Campaign
Published in Dakota Farmer
South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke is praising a new plan by ethanol advocacy group Growth Energy that would gradually end tax subsidies on ethanol and funnel the money to automobile manufacturers to build flex fuel vehicles and to fuel retailers to install blender pumps.
"Phasing out the tax credits will help the American tax payer, but ethanol needs a level playing field with the big oil companies to be successful. Right now, the two industries are not on equal ground," Sombke says. "Increasing the ethanol distribution infrastructure will help level the playing field, and I'm confident in our country's farmers' ability to be successful in the open market with our product."
"It's time our country gets serious about ending our addiction to foreign oil, and this is a good way to do it," Sombke says.
