President Obama visits Missouri’s first ethanol plant (Moberly Monitor)
Henry Ford said ethanol was “the fuel of the future,” and in that case the future was on display during President Barack Obama’s visit to the POET Biorefinery plant near Macon.
The plant that Obama toured on Wednesday was the first ethanol plant in the state of Missouri.
It produced its first ethanol in May 2000, starting with an annual capacity of 15 million gallons. Three years later, it expanded its capacity to 46 million gallons and added the production of Dakota Gold Distillers Grains, a high protein animal feed, and carbon dioxide, which is sold to soft drink companies, food processors, water treatment facilities and more.
