Grassley disappointed by E15 approval delays

Senator Charles Grassley is disappointed at the apparent slowness of the EPA to approve and implement a boost in gasoline ethanol blends.

The Iowa Republican and several other farm state senators met Monday with the agency’s administrator Lisa Jackson. She confirmed that even if higher ethanol blends are approved this fall they won’t be ready to sell to consumers until early next year.

Grassley also expressed disappointment that richer ethanol blends are only being considered for 2001 and newer cars.

During a conference call with reporters, Grassley said that for two decades he owned and drove an older car in which he used ethanol with no apparent problem.

Despite his concerns, Grassley says it was good to hear during the meeting with EPA Administrator Jackson positive statements regarding ethanol blends as high as 20 percent. The pending proposal before the EPA is to allow 15 percent ethanol to be blended with....
