Ethanol coalition kicks off national TV advertising campaign (MSN)

Growth Energy, a coalition of U.S. ethanol supporters, has launched a six-month national television advertising campaign designed to highlight ethanol as an alternative to imported petroleum.

The coalition hosted 10 press events, including one in Sacramento, to draw attention to the campaign that began 6 a.m. Monday. The campaign will air 30-second spots on four cable TV networks: Fox, MSNBC, CNN and HLN (formerly Headline News).

Six commercials will run as part of the $2.5 million campaign. More than half of the spots will air in prime time. The rest will air during heavily watched shows, from “Larry King Live” to “Morning Joe.”

“Ethanol is America’s fuel: It’s made here in the U.S., it creates U.S. jobs, and it contributes to America’s national and economic security,” Growth Energy co-chairman (Ret.) Gen. Wesley K. Clark said in a news release.

“It is long past time that the American public starts hearing the facts about ethanol,” Glenn Nedwin, executive vice president at Genencor International Inc., a Palo Alto-based innovator of enzymes used in ethanol production, added in the release. “For too long, powerful interests have spread myths and outdated studies about ethanol to warp the public’s perception. That is why we are taking our message directly to the people — that ethanol is clean, renewable, creates and keeps jobs right here at home, strengthens our national security and is the only alternative transportation fuel that works in our infrastructure today.”

Propel Fuels of Sacramento is part of the Growth Energy coalition.
