Ethanol battling food vs. fuel arguments (WISH TV)

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Is there enough corn for food and fuel?

Ethanol producers say "yes" and today Indiana producers joined in as they launched a new national effort to spread the word.

John Hamilton is already on board. He drives a flex fuel truck and goes out of his way to find E-85 fuel at a west side gas station. He wishes he didn't have to. "They need to put some more stations around, closer by," he says.

Ethanol producers are left to ask, how many flex fuel vehicles burn gasoline when they don't have to?

"As I see one going down the road I have to ask myself," says Greg Noble of POET Biorefining, "I wonder how much E-85's actually been through that vehicle?"

It is one reason for a new ad campaign that will promote the use of ethanol fuel. A consortium called Growth Energy wants to increase ethanol awareness. Consumers, members say, need to know that there is enough corn that ethanol production won't force food prices to go up.
