Recap of President Obama’s Visit to Macon Ethanol Plant
Watch the President deliver his remarks.
President Barack Obama spoke yesterday at Growth Energy member plant POET Biorefining in Macon, Mo. The president toured the plant and then spoke to media and guests about ideas for rebuilding our nation’s long-term economy.
In his speech, President Obama confirmed that domestic ethanol can play a significant role in making our nation more energy independent, rebuilding our economy and creating U.S. jobs. He said, “there shouldn’t be any doubt that renewable, homegrown fuels are a key part of our strategy for a clean energy future – a future of new industries, new jobs in towns like Macon, and new independence.”
The President also praised the POET plant saying it should serve as a model for the rest of the country.
The White House to Main Street tour provided an important opportunity for Americans to see what our ethanol producers are doing for our country. As he said, “I didn’t just discover the merits of biofuels like ethanol when I first hopped on the campaign bus. I believe in their potential to contribute to our rural economies and our clean energy.”
