How Agriculture and Corn Ethanol Are Working Together to Fuel Our Country
Today’s crop estimates show the productive capacity of America's farmers. Their ability to produce is the best in the world — producing more than enough grain for our food and feed needs. And as corn yields continue to grow ethanol producers are utilizing our grain surpluses to create clean, renewable fuel.
In an interview with AgWired, Steve McNich, CEO of Western Plains Energy based in Oakley, Kansas explained the important link between the agriculture and ethanol industries. He said, “There’s no better example at working your way out of a market than the American farmers. The history of the American farmer is that if there is ever an opportunity to make money, they’ll produce enough to make sure that doesn’t happen. The ethanol industry is no different.”
In the same interview, Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy, discussed the key policy issues critical to the future success and growth of the ethanol industry. Growth Energy is focused on several key pieces of legislation on the federal level including mandating all cars be flex-fuel capable, the build out of blender pumps and ethanol infrastructure, as well as the extension of the ethanol blender’s credit, and keeping the ethanol tariff in place.
