COOL Legislation

In the summer of 2009, Growth Energy announced its intention to seek COOL (country of origin labeling) legislation as a means of creating greater transparency in the consumer fuel market, and give consumers more choices.

There are plenty of reasons to blend more domestic ethanol into our gasoline - fewer greenhouse gas emissions, a market for agricultural products, insulation from cartel-driven oil shocks to our economy - but chief among our objectives is to end the U.S. subsidy of the economies of United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. Remember: by retaining our dependence on imported oil, we are sending $20 billion to $30 billion overseas each month. Think about the jobs and economic opportunity that money could create here at home if we didn’t siphon it out of our economy to subsidize the economies of other nations.
